EDGE's software provides functionality that the Carousel Manufacturer's can't match. Our software also takes full advantage of
Microsoft's Windows GUI. Our software's carousel interface provides a graphical representation of the carousels, order totes, shelf location and put location with quantities. Couple this with bar code technology, and you've got a system that can consistently pick lines items from the carousels and put them into order totes in as little as 4 seconds. All of this with a picking and shipping accuracy of around 99.94%
What a Properly Designed and Implemented Carousel System Can Do For You!
Carousels are designed for medium to high throughput environments. They are a relatively inexpensive method of automating your warehouse when compared to other material handling alternatives.
Generally speaking, carousels require the integration of software. The basic design of carousels is to simultaneously convey several aisles of material to a single operator, while also batch picking orders. This design requires the management of not only the inventory, but the carousel rotations, pick-to-light devices, other peripherals such as bar code equipment, and most importantly - the operator.
A properly designed carousel system can significantly increase your warehouse effectivety by increasing pick accuracy and reducing pick time. Carousels often become the mission critical part of the work flow of the warehouse. As such, it is critical the proper application be observed and the right software be used for the process.
Carousels typical are divided in to pods. Each pod of carousels has one operator. Each pod has a workstation which includes a PC, printer, a bar code scanner, and may have other peripheral devices such as pick-to-light to increase pick accuracy and decrease pick dwell time. Weigh scales for counting large quantities of small parts may also be incorporated.
When you add all of this up, you'll be surprised why you haven't invested in carousels sooner.
